Kumihama Bay is a beautiful lagoon which was formed by a sea-level change. It is blocked off by the Shotenkyo sandbar and separated from the Sea of Japan. In summer, many people visit here to bathe. The Tango Sand Dunes cover the area from the tip of Shotenkyo sandbar in Kumihama-cho to the mouth of Kizu River in Amino-cho, Kyotango City. The large sand dunes are utilized for agriculture.
