Rice grown in Wasabu’s rice terraces contains a lot of minerals because it is grown with fresh water from a nearby mountain stream. The use of agricultural chemicals can be reduced because of the pure air and temperature fluctuations caused by the topography. The number of temperature fluctuations in one day is the secret to increaseing sugar content in rice. The Muraoka and Ojiro areas are located high above sea level and have a big temperature fluctuations during early autumn. As a result, delicious rice has long been grown in rice terraces in these areas.
